Every year around the holidays Scrapbook Royalty has taken up noble causes for which we help raise money and collect donations. There are so many worthy causes to support in different ways that this year we have decided to launch a holiday campaign:
***Friends of Scott Toy Drive***
Each year Friends of Scott hosts a Holiday Christmas Party and this year Scrapbook Royalty will be helping to get toys donated for the children. Our goal is 150 toys. Please help us by going to www.toysrus.com to purchase a toy. Use the login information below:
|
Buying a toy for a child with cancer is easy!
- Go to www.toysrus.com
- Click on "wish list"
- Enter Scott Delgadillo for the child's name
There are toys ranging from $10-$18 that can be purchased for the children's Christmas party. The address to send them is on there too! |
Gifts need to be received by December 1st, 2008 so that we can wrap them and get them ready for the party. The Friends of Scott Christmas Party is one way to get the children and their families away from the hospital, chemo, and medical treatments and have them truly enjoy an afternoon of fun and celebration. The Christmas party is a highlight in these children's lives.

***Greeting Cards for Troops***
This year we are once again collecting cards for our Cards for Troops Campaign!! Last year we collected over 1500 handmade greeting cards from around the country and sent them to www.bluestarmothers.com, an organization that makes sure these cards reach actual soldiers serving overseas. The soldiers then use these cards to write home to family and friends during the holidays.

Last year's cards.

Last year's cards.
This year we are doing it again and we need your help! Gunnery Sergeant Remi Rodriguez of the United States Marine Corps is working with us to get these cards distributed to the hard working men and women overseas defending our country. We are sending the cards directly to the troops ourselves so that gives us a bit more time to get them made and sent over. A simple handmade card, blank inside, will do just perfectly. Please mail the cards by November 1st, so we have time to mail them to the soldiers and make sure to include the envelopes.
Here are some tips for getting a few cards made for the soldiers:
-
Create a few extra cards as you make your own--for example, for every 3 cards you make for yourself, make one card to donate.
- Use your scraps from last year's Christmas layouts and cards (cuz I know you're still saving them) to create a few cards. This way you can also take part in some guilt free shopping afterwards when you buy this year's hottest holiday papers.
- Go buy that new paper and just have fun creating some cards for the soldiers with it.
- Ask your friends to help. If you're having a crop or go to one at a store, ask everyone to take 5 minutes to create one card.
- Have the kids help. Scout troops love doing these kinds of activities. Set up the supplies assembly line style and get everyone to pitch in.
- Buy a kit--some stores and consultants sell card kits--just buy one and assemble all the cards and send them to us for the troops.
- Take a class. Ask the instructor if you can buy extra cards or kits to make the assembly easy.
- If you are a consultant hold a card-making party! Have your guests make one card for themselves and one for the troops as part of your demonstration.
Once you've created your cards, you can send your handmade cards directly to:

***Canned Food Drive for Food Banks***
Girl Scout Troop 609 is collecting non-perishable canned and boxed foods to donate to local food banks in the San Bernardino area. You may donate the actual canned goods or donate gift cards from local grocery stores or Costco where the troop will buy cans to donate on your behalf. The girls have agreed to purchase one can of food for every 5 donated using funds raised during their cookie sale in early 2008. For more information, click HERE.
***Bookmarks for Santa Claus Inc***
"Elves are needed" once again to provide bookmarks for Santa Claus Inc to give to children who might not otherwise have a Christmas. Every year Santa Claus Inc helps make the holidays brighter for over 11,000 in the San Bernardino, CA area. The bookmarks will be given to the children with books from Santa Claus Inc.
Here are the guidelines:
-
Make the bookmarks about 2" x 6" in size
- Please use an eyelet or grommet to reinforce the hole at the top if you are adding ribbon or fiber through the hole. Please do not staple or glue ribbon. You do not have to include a "tassel" if you don't want to.
- Corner round the edges if possible. The Zutter Round-It-All Works great for this.
- You are welcome to laminate the bookmarks as well. It doesn't have to be fancy. You can use clear contact paper if you want. Many school supply stores (like Lakeshore Learning) offer self-laminating stations and you can laminate about 100 bookmarks for under $5.
- Make sure they are sturdy--you can glue two pieces of paper back to back if you want to make them more rigid or use a chipboard center.
- Any decorations should be able to lay flat in a book and should be able to hold up against the handling of a child.
- You can sign the back with your name if you like (for example: "Created with love by Nancy J")
Be creative and have fun!! Deadline to mail bookmarks is November 25, 2008. We need to have them all counted and ready to go by the first week of December. Store bought bookmarks are welcome too!!
