July 12th, 2008: Invisible Children Crop

In the spring of 2003, three young filmmakers traveled to Africa in search of a story. What started out as a filmmaking adventure transformed into much more when these boys from Southern California discovered a tragedy that disgusted and inspired them, a tragedy where children are both the weapons and the victims.

After returning to the States, they created the documentary "Invisible Children: Rough Cut," a film that exposes the tragic realities of northern Uganda's night commuters and child soldiers.

Since 2003, night commuting has all but ceased for the children of northern Uganda. A temporary truce between the Ugandan government and the LRA has held for more than a year, and as peace continues to progress, many nations, including the US, have appointed special envoys to oversee this process.

In light of the current situation and a nearing peace, Invisible Children is addressing the need for access to education and economic development through three innovative programs on the ground. The Program we will be raising funds for is the Visible Child Scholarship Program. It's an initiative that develops the leadership and life skill capacities of promising students. Pioneered by Uganda's Country Director Jolly Grace Okot, the program focuses on increased access to post-primary education, improved learning environments, and mentoring from local leaders.

Please don't miss this opportunity to be a part of bettering the quality of life for the children of Uganda. For your registration fee you will also get a copy of the Rough Cut DVD ($20.00 value).

I began scrapping about 10 years ago to preserve memories in a creative way. My love for crafting started at a young age; from drawing, to painting, to cross stitching and sewing. Being a stay-at-home mom has given me the opportunity to create scrapbooks, not just for myself, but for others as well. I began as a "Creative Memories" consultant and later and branched out on my own. Today, I have found true happiness with doing what I love, which is fulfilling my creative side, while at the same time creating a successful home business and being able to stay home with my kids. Creating works of art for Scrapbooking is my passion!

Scrapbookers are a unique group. They are sentimental, caring people who love to get together and crop! It is a natural fit for them to have a great time while raising money for charity. That being said, we are taking donations of hand made items to add to the silent auction.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE REGISTERED PARTICIPANT TO CONTRIBUTE! Everyone is welcome to donate. Anything hand made qualifies. It can be a mini book, a necklace, a scarf… the possibilities are endless. Get creative and get recognized for your creativity!

Nothing is more rewarding than donating to noble causes.

Please email us at info@scrapbookroyalty.com if you are able to contribute so we can register your item and assign it an auction number.

    Become Scrapbook Royalty!

There are five ways to do this:

    1) The Queen of Philanthropy

Bring in the most donations and be crowned "Queen of Philanthropy". Click here for suggestions on collecting donations.

    2) Queen of Silent Auctions

At this time all the silent auctions will be for handmade as well as non-scrapbooking related items. Bring your own handmade creation to donate and together we can raise money for these worthy causes. The participant that donates the most money through silent auction will be crowned "Queen of Silent Auctions".

    3) Queen of Crafts

Win a tiara and fabulous prizes. Bring a handmade item for the Silent Auction. If your item fetches the most money will be crowned "Queen of Crafts".

    4) "Queen of A Lot" - lot (l t) n. Miscellaneous articles sold as one unit.

As part of our fundraising we are asking that scrappers bring their unwanted scrapbook items to the crop and we will have a silent auction for each "lot".

    • The person that brings the LOT that is auctioned off for the most money will become "Queen of a LOT" and will be crowned during the evening's festivities.
    • Each LOT will be displayed and bidders will have the opportunity to preview the contents before bidding. Gather those unused or gently used items and bring them in a box, you may want to decorate the box to entice bids on your LOT.
    • After the silent auction, the winners will have the opportunity to go through their boxes and discard items they know they won't be using. These items will be put on the "$1 table" and be up for purchase by other scrappers (card stock and scrapbook paper will be 4 for $1).
    • Any leftover items after the sale will be donated to charity. A "Win-Win" for all involved.
    • All charity table purchases can be paid for with cash or check. Purchase supplies as you need them or start a tab to be paid at the event's end.

    5) Queen of Sweets

This one is new to this event but not new to those of you that attended other SBR events last year! Bring a handmade dessert to share with your fellow croppers and compete for the title "Queen of Sweets"! We will serve your homemade treats during tea time and participants will vote on their favorite dessert! Make BITE SIZED pieces for 50 people.
